Item 1

 Painting by Frances Macdonald

Soft Aqua Shallows, Iona
Oil on canvas
16" x 18"

Frances Macdonald is unrivalled in her ability to capture the true character of the coastline of Argyll and the Western Isles.
Frances Macdonald both lives and works in a delightfully unspoiled corner of Argyll, at Crinan. Her trademark use of the palette knife to depict the very structure of the rock formations is balanced by an uncanny ability to portray the true colours of both beach and sea.

The Ardoch Ring

This fabulous ring is a honey coloured Cat's Eye surrounded by a double row of small diamonds.

"Like the eye of a sleek feline predator, the chrysoberyl cat's eye winks at the astonished observer – a real miracle of Nature! That's why only this attractive gemstone has the right to the short, fitting name of "cat's eye". This gem is really something special with its narrow, bright band of light on a shimmering golden background, which seems to glide magically across the surface when the stone is moved."  (International Gemstone Association)

Item 4

"The Aye-Aye and I - a Rescue Expedition in Madagascar"
by Gerald Durrell
signed by Lee Durrell

From Publisher's Weekly:

Age cannot wither nor custom stale the boundless enthusiasm of Durrell in his efforts to rescue endangered species. Here he is in Madagascar--with his wife, Lee, and a BBC crew--to film and to capture for breeding the rare aye-aye, a nocturnal lemur of Africa's east coast rain forests. As his party travels through the countryside over impossible roads and rickety bridges, Durrell gives marvellous descriptions of inns and markets. Once settled in camp, he is able to find an aye-aye captive at the Biosphere Reserve, but the wild ones remain elusive.  Adventure, humour and a serious scientific mission add up to first-rate entertainment.

This copy is signed by Gerald Durrell's wife, Lee, to whom the book is dedicated.

Lochside 1965, 46yr old Highland “Single Blend” 52.3% vol

1 of only 499 bottles (estimated) from cask no. 6778

Adelphi Distillery Limited selects only the finest single casks of Scotch whisky available, a mere 1 in 40 that it tastes, and bottles them unchill-filtered, at natural strength and colour. The nosing panel at Adelphi came across this 46yr old cask of Lochside in August 2011, still in its original Harvey’s Bodega shipping “butt”, and was bowled over by the richness of colour and complexity of flavour.
Official tasting notes will be written once the whisky is in bottle, but the cask sample is showing wonderful notes of dark chocolate, molasses, bitter coffee and dried fruits.
The cask is due to be bottled on Monday 26th September, and 1 bottle will be reserved for the winner of this auction.
